Rick Shrader‘s Review:
John MacArthur has taken the “Innocent Party View” of divorce and remarriage throughout his writing career. This 2009 book is no different. He says, “In God’s sight, the bond between a husband and wife is dissolved only by death (Romans 7:2), adultery (Mathew 19:9), and an unbeliever’s leaving (1 Corinthians 7:15)” (p. 81). This book is a little over 100 pages and gives the reader a good (but very careful) overview of the biblical picture of divorce. The book is full of personal illustrations and accounts from MacArthur’s own ministry. It also has a final chapter of common questions and answers. Especially helpful in this volume is his explanation of Deuteronomy 24 and how Jesus agreed with it in Matthew 5 and 19, “It will help us to have a right understanding of Jesus’ teaching on divorce if we see that Jesus and Moses are in perfect agreement on this issue” (p. 24).
