Rick Shrader‘s Review:

I found this book to be an interesting look at the CCM problem from a man with an interesting background. Wheaton has a BA in Music from Denver University, an MA from UNC and a PhD in Music from UCLA. He now is the director of instrumental music for Calvary Church in Santa Ana, CA. He has written music for television and even the opening ceremonies at the Olympics.

Wheaton, however, is very critical of what is happening in the churches due to CCM. He goes into great detail in describing the technicalities of music (melody, harmony, rhythm, mood, beat, tempo, lyrics, etc.), and he is very insistent on the danger of the physical and emotional effects of music. He includes short histories of the various musical styles as well. (by Hearthstone Publishing)
