Rick Shrader‘s Review:
This book appeared in 2025 and so was written at or near the time of John MacArthur’s death (d. July 14, 2025). MacArthur writes the entire book, perhaps over a period of several months or even years due to his failing health in his last days. However, the book is very much MacArthur’s position of the doctrines of Calvinism. The chapters are: Absolute Inability; Divine Election; Actual Atonement; Effectual Call; Persevering Faith. A typical statement of these doctrines is found in the section on the atonement, “The average Christian today will say that Christ died for everyone. Most Christians believe that Jesus paid for everyone’s sin because He loves everyone and wants everyone to be saved. That is the predominant evangelical view. So all we have to do, they will say, is tell sinners that God loves them so much that He paid their penalty and He wants them to be saved–and all they have to do is respond to receive those benefits.” The reader can get the full view of MacArthur’s soteriology in this book.
