{"id":7929,"date":"2006-10-30T01:56:00","date_gmt":"2006-10-30T01:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aletheiabaptistministries.org\/Blog\/?post_type=eutychus-article&#038;p=7929"},"modified":"2019-11-30T01:57:42","modified_gmt":"2019-11-30T01:57:42","slug":"distorted-christians","status":"publish","type":"eutychus-article","link":"https:\/\/aletheiabaptistministries.org\/Blog\/eutychus-article\/distorted-christians\/","title":{"rendered":"Distorted Christians"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of\nseveral lessons about describing a Christian comes to mind when I think of all\nthe costumes and disguises we see on display for Halloween. This one is usually\nmore favored with primary age children because they know the character:&nbsp;\nMeet Mr. Potato Head, Christian Extraordinaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have\none of those plastic accessory toys (they are still available new after all\nthese years) you can create a memorable object lesson. Start with a blank head\n(this refers to the toy). Show the perfect image advertised on the box, showing\nwhat a perfectly assembled Mr. Potato Head looks like. Now ask the children\nwhat Mr. Potato Head will look like if he has his ears tuned to the world and\nnot to the Word of God. As they give their answers, place the ears on backwards\nor upside down. Now ask about what kind of talk the Christian is commanded to\nspeak. If Mr. Potato head wants to sit with his cool friends at lunch and talk\ndisrespectfully about their teacher or their parents, what kind of mouth would\nhe have? Place the mouth on the back of his head, or in a funny position.\nComplete the lesson with the nose, eyebrows and other related ways the\nChristian can get off track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Present Mr.\nDistorted Potato Head to the class and ask them, \u201cIs this the way Mr. Potato\nHead is supposed to look?\u201d After listening to their answers, ask them if others\nsee the Christian God wants them to see when they look at you. Is your\ntestimony obscured by ears that are twisted to listen to things you know you\nshouldn\u2019t? Is the conversation from your mouth always straight and true? Do\nyour eyes keep themselves pure? If you aren\u2019t careful, people you hope to\ninfluence by your Christian testimony will see that distorted image instead of\nthe advertised picture on the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For\ndiscussion: what are some of the sounds or conversations our ears should not\nlisten to?
