{"id":8303,"date":"2002-10-30T18:42:16","date_gmt":"2002-10-30T18:42:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aletheiabaptistministries.org\/Blog\/?post_type=catbird-seat&#038;p=8303"},"modified":"2020-04-23T18:43:06","modified_gmt":"2020-04-23T18:43:06","slug":"superman-and-supernatural","status":"publish","type":"catbird-seat","link":"http:\/\/aletheiabaptistministries.org\/Blog\/catbird-seat\/superman-and-supernatural\/","title":{"rendered":"Superman and Supernatural"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n\r\nGod and Superman; I thought that might get your attention.\u00a0 A recent educational &#8220;study&#8221; has reported that children are not developing imagination and creativity skills.\u00a0 Yes, another study we don&#8217;t need.\u00a0 Any parent who fights the media battle knows that it is hard to get your child away from dictated, pre-meditated entertainment, even at many schools.\u00a0 The real emphasis from the study also dragged up a decades-old problem.\u00a0 Verbal skills among elementary students are at an all-time low.\u00a0 Of course, they recommended limiting media and reading more books.\u00a0 Another no-brainer!\u00a0 The lack of imagination and creativity skills finds its root in non-reading.\u00a0 While you may not like Dr. Seuss, he was certainly imaginative!\u00a0 Books open doors to worlds and ideas none of us can offer every child.\u00a0 They are a direct, proven link to verbal skills.\u00a0 Seeing complete, correct sentences in print translates to writing the same way.\u00a0 The same is true of oral language and vocabulary growth.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nYou&#8217;re still wondering what this has to do with superman.\u00a0 The analogy is that as Christians, fostering creativity and imagination is what will help us in some ways to explain a supernatural God.\u00a0 The child who has <em>proper direction<\/em> in creativity will not dwell on what&#8217;s untrue, but with the realm outside immediate reality.\u00a0 Our God is a superman.\u00a0 There is the matter of faith, of the Trinity to explain, both of which require the kind of thinking that goes beyond human reality.\u00a0 Children begin to understand God and the universe He created as they begin to understand the power and omniscience it took to put it in place.\u00a0 As they imagine the workings of the human brain or the functions of the body, they grasp ideas beyond their finite, sensory realm.\u00a0 These are the kinds of imagination we must foster.\u00a0 Start your child&#8217;s journey into imagination with A. A. Milne&#8217;s Winnie the Pooh series.\u00a0 Other authors I like are C. S.
